Empowered Pregnancy : Confident Birth

Labouring Mama To Be is in a water birth on all fours. Her head rests on the side of the pool on a folded towel. She is focussed and calm.

Not your greatest fear”

Hello Mama (to be) . . .
I’m Annie, and I am delighted to welcome you here!

You, my lovely, are standing at the threshold of, what can only be described as, a ‘life - changer on steroids’!

And, without doubt, your life will never be the same.

But, the ‘not knowing’ of what these changes might
be like can, sometimes, create all sorts of anxieties and emotions.

And, whilst this is quite normal . . . it can be scary too.

And I know this - because supporting women throughout pregnancy and as they step into motherhood is totally my “thing”!

You see, I’ve spent most of my working life supporting people through change.

My background is in Midwifery but a family tragedy sent me on a totally unexpected trajectory where I explored and trained in a number of healing modalities and life coaching techniques that were just so ‘outside the box’ of the conventional medicine that I was used to!

But, beauty of all of this is that the work I share now comes from weaving all of my experience, wisdom and passion together . . . which creates a unique and bespoke support system for you as you make your own transformational journey through pregnancy and into Motherhood.

(You can find out a bit more
about me here!)

You know, this is what I believe . . .

If you're ‘armed’ with all the necessary knowledge to be able to understand and fathom out what’s happening . . . and have a deep sense of trust in yourself, your body as well as the decisions that you make
. . . and have access to the ‘anxiety bashing’ tools that I'm able to share with you . . .
then, really, you have a pretty good chance of stepping into Motherhood confident, empowered and 'absoballylutely' ready to embrace this next stage in your life.

But, sometimes, something gets in the way of all this being possible . . . and that is FEAR

SO, fear is a basic instinct.
It’s prime function is to keep us safe.
It’s primal.
Which means that if we sense danger or feel unsafe we have the inbuilt survival tactics to respond -
(you know the one . . . fight, flight, freeze or fawn)

Image of red haired young woman sitting with her head in her hands as though mentally processing some emotion. Text reads : Fear - a distressing emotion aroused by impending danger, evil, pain etc - whether this threat is real or imagined

But, when you think about it, there are many, many stresses that are just associated with modern day living.

And these increase when you’re about to welcome a baby into your world.

The effect of this is to trigger the release of the stress hormones (adrenalin and cortisol) - which can cause our fight and flight response to be “switched on” pretty much 24/7.

And, of course, this is going to have a hugely negative impact on our wellbeing . . . on all aspects of ourselves, our physical, mental and emotional bodies.

So, in essence this isn’t great for us.
And, probably, not ideal for ‘little one’ growing inside.

But the good news is that there are ways to manage all of this . . .

Coping strategies that enable you to recognise when things are out of kilter . . . those little signs of anxiety, stress, fear and then ways to deal with them before they become bigger and harder to cope with.
